Kenthurst
A NORWEST RETREAT
This rolling acreage project in Kenthurst provided the perfect opportunity to apply high-level design details on a large scale. Located on the fringe of Sydney’s outward expanding bushlands, materials included Sydney sandstone and Australian hardwood – local favourites that featured heavily throughout.
An entertainer’s delight, the design was driven by a desire to create easily accessible entertaining areas that spill organically out from the house and into the former farm lands. Aiming to comfortably accommodate large groups in all situations, some spaces include ample shelter and refuge, while other communal spaces take full advantage of the sunshine and rolling views of the surrounding eucalypt forest.
The entertaining areas were then finished with outdoor furniture settings by Eco Outdoor.

Tasked with finding an eclectic mix of plants that spoke to the client’s love of various garden styles, Australian natives and waterwise exotics were selected in equal parts for their aesthetic sensibilities, and their capacity to withstand north-west Sydney’s often harsh climate.
Topiary elements, softer foliages, bright vibrant flowers and fruiting species were also included, adding a warm touch of Mediterranean flare. As a result of these diverse inspirations, the garden sends visitors on a vivid journey from the dusty outskirts of Sydney to the rolling hills of Tuscany.
We acknowledge the Darug people, the traditional custodians of the land and waters on which this landscape sits.
